PS 24 conditions are rapidly deteriorating due to windows that were put into the walls that are causing the walls of the building to be ripped apart from the foundation. SCA has already closed 4 classrooms because of the danger to students. The School cannot follow legislation for smaller class size and have 30 students per class. It is anticipated that more classrooms will be closed in the future.

Department of Housing Preservation & Development

Through Universal Access, the City provides free legal services to thousands of residents facing eviction in housing court or NYCHA termination of tenancy proceedings, citywide, regardless of immigration status, every year. Tenants facing eviction may qualify for free legal advice or representation, depending on income. The City also funds the Anti-Harassment Tenant Protection (AHTP) program. AHTP provides legal services to achieve pre-litigation resolution and, if necessary, representation in court for tenants facing harassment, disrepair, illegal lockouts, and eviction. Through both our Preservation and New Construction programs, HPD is continuing to support seniors through the five boroughs. Our Preservation projects require property owners to issue "Aging in Place" surveys to tenants. The property owner will be required to make renovations to the apartment, such as grab bars, accessible toilets, and task lighting. Our new construction projects for senior housing frequently make use of Section 8 as a project-based subsidy to ensure that seniors on fixed income can reside in the apartments We want to support until completion
